Young Artist in Residence: Boson Mo

Performance Today has invited musicians from the top American conservatories to visit the PT studios for a week-long residency. We'll hear them play great music and talk about their backgrounds, their ambitions, and what it means to be a musician.

Boson Mo discovered the violin at the age of seven and has since received numerous national and international distinctions.

Recently, Mo won Third Prize at Michael Hill International Violin Competition. He was also the recipient of the "Prix Joseph-Rouleau" at the 2010 Montreal International Violin Competition, and participated in the Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition, the Menuhin International Violin Competition, and the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.

He also won the Canadian Music Educators' Association's W. Harvey Award for the Best Small Ensemble Performance, Third Prize at the Concours Orchestre symphonique de Montreal, and First Prize at the Canadian Music Competition.

Mo has attended the Perlman Music Program, the Banff Centre's Chamber Music Residency, Morningside Music Bridge. He also attended the Aspen Music Festival and School as a Fellowship recipient for four consecutive years.

As a student of Paul Kantor, Mo pursues his graduate studies at the Shepherd School of Music. He completed his undergraduate studies as a Starling Foundation Scholarship recipient at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Additionally, he has performed in masterclasses for Itzhak Perlman, Donald Weilerstein, Sylvia Rosenberg, Olivier Charlier, Cho-Liang Lin, Peter Salaff, Masao Kawasaki, Joan Kwuon, Paul Katz, Roger Tapping, Jerome Lowenthal, and Yoheved Kaplinsky.

Mo currently performs on a violin by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, which is graciously on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts.
