Soprano Sharleen Joynt talks with Fred Child about covering a role at the Metropolitan Opera, her appearance on the TV show The Bachelor, and how a career in opera begs difficult questions about what is important in life.

"Silvery"-voiced coloratura soprano Sharleen Joynt was born in Ottawa, Canada. In 2009 she graduated from the Mannes College of Music in New York with a Master's degree in Vocal Performance.

She has sung roles at Carnegie Hall, the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, the Schwetzingen Baroque Festival, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, and the Theater St. Gallen in Switzerland. She has also covered roles at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Additionally, she has been a prizewinner in the Liederkranz Foundation Competition, the George London Foundation Competition, the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, the Licia-Albanese Foundation Competition, the Canadian Music Competition's International Stepping Stone, and the Palm Beach Opera Vocal Competition.
