    Nov 27, 2013

Three members of the Danish String Quartet first met as teens in a summer music camp. They grew up, went to music conservatory, and acquired a Norwegian cellist.

The Danish String Quartet debuted at the 2002 Copenhagen Music Festival, and has made an astounding rise in the classical music world.

The quartet also doesn't take itself too seriously.

From their website:

We are three Danes and one Norwegian cellist, making this a truly Scandinavian endeavor. We are often joking about ourselves being modern Vikings — perhaps a touch more harmless than our ancestors — we are not pillaging cities or razing the English coastline!

The Danish String Quartet includes Frederik Oland, violin; Rune Tonsgaard Sorensen, violin; Asbjorn Norgaard, viola; and Fredrik Sjolin, cello. They joined PT Host Fred Child in the Maud Moon Weyerhaeuser Music Studio to perform youthful music by Felix Mendelssohn, and their own transcription of traditional Danish folk music.
